Walls

I'm getting into this terrible habit of copying whatever Anet and Sharon have on their blogs, because they come up with such better concepts than I do. To wit, house walls and the art adorning them: Living room, looking west, you could see Pikes Peak out this window.

Living room, Georgia O'Keefe print
on the left, fireplace with various fetishes on the right, the fireplace has bricks from the original Penrose Hospital.

Dining room angel alcove, where all the angels fly to hide.

Kitchen photos, left is the strange indoor charcoal pit and wine rack made from Penrose bricks, at right is the chile pepper memorial wall.

Below, the front hallway of random hangings
and odd-shaped doorways.
Above, my chaotic office, with music posters, political diatribes, and discarded napkins from Cecil Taylor performances.

Two more images of the office, framed Sleater-Kinney and cross-stitched Michigan on the left, the door of doom on the right.

Th-th-th-th-th-th-that's all, folks!

That was so fun! Thanks for the peek. Is that a pond or a lake out your front window??? It's gorgeous!

My favorite poster is the Pere Ubu. Oh, and what's the door of doom....Abby's room??? You haven't seen anything until you've seen Zoe's room. I think she's working on breeding a super germ in there! :)

No, it just leads out to a wooded lot, I wonder if it was just a sun reflection, no water on the property. Door of Doom was the door to my office. Abby tore apart her room for college this week, but is going to provide me with a picture of The Room That Was. She painted it a burgundy red with a forest-green floor, and it ended up looking good.

I love the July 4 Poster!!!!!!!

Gwen, that was actually a paid full-page advertisement taken out in the NY Times by Adbusters magazine. I love Adbusters, they're fearless.

I see that Peace in Space award, that's pretty cool.

There is something about this that just deepens everything. Seeing into a person's home - your home - takes this blog thing to another place, and I appreciate you sharing.

That's cool about the recycled bricks too.

What a great place you have!
I have two of the same angels you have, I don't have the one in the middle.
Your office is a blast! My daughter would love the Traveling Show poster. My favorite is the Flat Black & Circular sign. Rock on! My two oldest still go there, it's been around forever! I used to go there as a teenager.
Ahhh.... the memories!
Thanks for sharing your personal space with us.

Ruth, see, you're way ahead of us, you've been doing your rooms one by one already!

Anet, whenever I go back to Michigan, a trip to FBC is a requirement, like going to Mecca and visiting the Qaaba (and hey, they're both black and circular). Went there for the first time when I was at MSU in the late 1970s, and still go back there today. It's in my Top Ten for independent record stores nationwide.

Hi, this is Autumn Annette's daughter, I'm working at the look out, and my mom said your mom use to be the adviser, we're doing a 50th anniversary of the paper issue and I was wondering if you had any idea of someplace to find old issues?

Heres my email:
vintage_rain@sbcglobal.net

Any info would help so much! Thanks. (o:

(Oh and it turns out we're only looking for the papers from the first four years of production)

lemme get out my magnifying glass and take a better look at that cool stuff. I'm loving this voyer thang!
Ok, I'm next. I'm jumpin on the bandwagon. I shall expose my walls at some point this week.
I'm finally here to visit your blog so off I go to peruse...

Duh. Forgot about the whole "click to enlarge" thing.
Is that your breaker box?! The Huz wont let me decorate ours! :(

Loring Wirbel said...

runninl8, thanks for visiting! The breaker box is actually in the garage, this is the remnants of some kind of Litton security system that we never turned on or checked. The guy that formerly owned the house was a one-time aide to the Shah of Iran and had all kinds of strange security things - phone conduits buried 20 feet under ground, etc. Damn house is probably wired direct to NSA headquarters at Fort Meade, but I don't care. I fart/belch in the listening devices' general direction.

I dare ya to pick up up the phone and say,"I'm gonna kill ye, George Bush!!!! Go and boil your bottom, son of a silly person! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! K-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-niggit!"

ooooooooooo!

Heyyyyy, look who's here! Yeah, like you've never seen it. Have you and Kim been to any more concerts lately? John Darnielle of Mountain Goats (see next post) was at Folks Fest, and Kevin went with us up to a one-day event on Sunday. That was the only day the sun came out!

Jacqueline said...

You were fortunate to pick Sunday as the day to go. One of my goals this summer was to attend lots of outdoor concerts but that petered out in the past month and a half. Kim did get some tickets for Sigur Ros at Red Rocks in late September. But we might go to Maine...so I don't know.

Loring Wirbel said...

Hey, I'll go to Sigur Ros! If you stick around, we'll get tix, if not, I'll buy them off you.
