OK, It's Over, and Congrats

I really never had a doubt that this would happen. Obama's acceptance and McCain's concession speeches were both classy. The only thing not classy is this die-hard core of neocons and oddballs with strange beliefs about Obama bringing about a "socialist USA" (hell, he's a centrist). Look, we had to put up with eight years of the biggest global terrorist imaginable in the Oval Office, so just shut the fuck up, OK?

I really do love the arguments comparing terrorist Bill Ayers, who blew up a statue and killed no one, to the Federal criminals who have not only killed and tortured people beyond belief, but have ruined the lives of millions directly and indirectly and broken international and domestic laws with impunity.

Those arguments crack me up, like he's been harboring all these secret beliefs since he was teenager so that he could unleash them when he became president. If anything he's too hawkish and his health care plan doesn't do enough but last night was a great night.

I do NOT like the fact he has named Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff. Emanuel has a history of being a sneaky operator for the Democratic Leadership Council, and of undermining "liberal" positions. Not good.

I'd rather someone more liberal too, but after four decades of silly pseudo-economics, after forty years of rightwing bastards insinuating (and occasionally saying outright) that anyone that disagrees with them is a traitor; after a reign of corruption compounded by a jaw-dropping level of hypocrisy; after 8 years of deliberate (almost gleefully deliberate) stupidity, and in anticipation of two more months of that shit, I can live with, at the very worst, mere competence in government for the next four years.

You betcha! Rahm is a small price to pay for snickering at the freaked-out rightwing evangelicals around here. I'm just sayin', we have to keep both eyes open.

It will also be wonderful to have a president so inspiring in his speeches after 8 years of embarrassment.
