It's that simple.

I turned 50 in 2007, so I'm practicing curmudgeon-like behavior by stressing, "whatever it is, I'm agin' it!" Call me anarcho-syndicalist or progressive, except I think most anarchists and progressives are as annoying as neocons. I like to point folks to way-outside-the-mainstream literature and music, while grumbling about everything else.

Yeah, it is!
STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND JUST DO IT.
STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND JUST DO IT.
I'm pondering wearing an armband or something....
Loring, here is an excellent piece about the Twitter press conference the Israeli government had. As the author says: "The quickie summary is the enemy of negotiation, peace, and of the kind of creative thought that could get people out of their endlessly repeated, knee-jerk habits of mind."
The article is here.
Now I'm conflicted - the Israelis obviously don't like plain, simple, six-word summaries that call things as they really are. On the other hand, I share the annoyance with all things Twitter-y. Wired ran a column in December about how all blogs were being replaced by Twitter, and I responded that any microblog with a 140-character limit can't help but be dominated by narcissistic, superficial nonsense.
But Israel still needs to just LEAVE GAZA.
And Ruth Conniff said that Twitter can be of value for quick recitation of the facts. I won't even go that far. Twitter's worthless.
Agreed.
But I also agree that sometimes you/they have to be willing to accept simple summary statements.
